Today marks 16 years since Aaliyah's untimely passing in a plane crash. I still remember the moment my mom told me she had died. I was taking a shower and she burst into the bathroom so upset to tell me the news, I instantly called my best friend at the time who was in tears over it as well. She was more than a singer we just heard on the radio, she was our everything, our idol, our Aaliyah.
